Overview
Pteranodon (also known as Ptera, PT, Petra, or sometimes simply referred to as ‘bird’) is a playable pterosaur in Beasts of Bermuda. It is one of the most agile creatures in the game, able to soar and glide through the air at incredible speed. Its ability to fly allows it to access places that few creatures can reach, such as high-up rocks and cliffs, or isolated seastacks in the ocean. Some of these locations provide perfect shelter from storms, which Pteranodon are quite vulnerable to!

Pteranodon has a piscivorous diet, and can be seen plunging into the water for fish from time to time. However, to remain in good health, Pteranodon must also frequently consume carcasses that are obtained by defeating other players, or found randomly throughout the map.

It has many hunting methods, although the most common is dive-bombing. Dives require careful aim and precision to prevent crashing at high speeds. If you're fast enough, you become no more than a blur to your opponents; you're nearly impossible to hit!

Abilities
* Bite
** Default: LMB and RMB (Left and Right Mouse Button)
** A simple bite attack that can be angled forward and down with the usage of both mouse buttons.

* Dart
** Default: RMB (Right Mouse Button)
** A speed boost and attack ability that may only be used while submerged in water.
** This ability will propel you forward at great speeds, and can even be used to take off quickly from the water.
** Darting into another creature will deal damage to them.

* Flight
** Default: W + SHIFT + SPACE
** This ability is unique to the Flier class, and can be used by jumping, sprinting, and holding your W key at the same time.
** Taking off consumes stamina initially, and sprinting while flying will drain your stamina as well, but you can glide and dive freely without losing any energy as you go.

* Braking
** Default: Q
** Braking allows you to slow down mid-flight, to prevent crash-landings.
** To slow your flight, hold down your Interact keybind (default Q).
** You can hold the SPACE key to prevent altitude loss from braking.

* Aerial Acrobatics
** Default: Z
** Aerial acrobatics gives a brief burst of intense speed and maneuverability.

Survival Tips
* Pteranodon is both swift and nimble, able to out-speed and outmaneuver many of its opponents. It has the tightest turn circle and the highest acceleration of the flying creatures, making it quite hard to catch in the air, greatly aiding in its escapes. Utilize this superior mobility by diving in swoops and arcs to evade enemies.
* Pteranodon is fragile, and is extremely vulnerable to injury damage. With too much injury it cannot fly, becoming slow and helpless on the ground. By investing in the talents Strong Legs, you can mitigate injury from crash landings. By investing in Strong Bones or Brace for Impact, you can mitigate injury from other players.
* Pteranodon’s diet is primarily fish, although, to remain in peak health, it must also occasionally consume meat. Meat can be obtained by defeating other players, or by scavenging the map for naturally-spawning gores.
* The faster a Pteranodon is moving, the more damage it will deal to its enemies. With the Piercing Beak talent, it can further increase its damage at higher velocities.
* Pteranodons are one of only a handful of creatures that have the talent Nest Raider. This talent allows the player to grab and carry off young creatures of different species, provided they’re not too heavy to fly with! Carrying babies and juveniles will drain your Ability Power over time, meaning you can’t carry them forever. This talent also allows the user to eat eggs.
* Pteras are weak to intense weather, even with the Weather Resistance talent. When a storm starts up, it’s best for them to seek shelter immediately. If you’re afraid of Pteranodons, but have good weather resistance, storms are the best time to be out and about while they keep comfortable in caves ‘til the storm passes!

Trivia
* Pteranodon’s in-game calls were created by using and modifying emu sounds.
* Pteranodon has had a total of 2 remodels, from the old store-bought asset by Mantis Hatchery, to the second model by Manuelsaurus, to the current model by Callie.
* Pteranodon was the first creature to ever receive a Shimmer skin, the Phantom Shimmer Pteranodon. This shimmer was also the first and only event to have ever been a contest, unlike the participation events that followed.
* Pteranodon (and Tropeognathus) used to be incapable of dealing physical damage to Apatosaurus. This is because they would hover around Apatosaurus’s head and neck hitbox, where the Apato could not reach to defend itself. Now, after the Apatosaurus rework (March 10th, 2022), it can defend itself and does not need the immunity.
* Pteranodon’s flight system is inspired by Primal Carnage.
Beasts of Bermuda is a survival game in which you play as a prehistoric creature native to the mysterious islands of Bermuda: a tropical ecosystem absent from human contact and full of prehistoric life. With its propensity to storms and shifting tides, wildfires and even tornados, the Bermuda is an ever-changing ecosystem.
Choose from several creatures, including terrestrials, flyers, aquatics or semi-aquatics, and battle your way through the severity of hunger, thirst, stress, and predation, all of which are aspects that pose as constant threats to your survival. Play as whichever creature suits you the best, be it an herbivore, a carnivore, a piscivor or even an omnivore and learn to thrive on the islands of Bermuda.

The game is currently under development and was first released on December 21st, 2018 as a primarily multiplayer experience. Check out its Steam page here!

<center></center>

<center><span style="font-size:200%>What does Beasts of Bermuda have to offer?</span></center><br>

Beasts of Bermuda offers the experience of playing in unique niches as an (semi-)aquatic, flying, or terrestrial creature. Certain creatures specialize in unique gameplay. For instance, semiaquatics offer a lifestyle that is different from traditional carnivores and marines, as they are both adept at swimming and running.

The game also has unique map elements. Whether you're seeking a cave to shelter from a storm, waiting for the tide to drop to walk safely to a new island, or migrating to avoid a forest fire or a depleted water source, the map is always changing around you and feeling alive.

The playable creatures in Beasts of Bermuda all have their own unique abilities. Some can grab their prey, others can pounce large distances, and some can even climb up walls. Every animal is different in Beasts of Bermuda, and a lot of effort has been put into making the mechanics unique and enjoyable.

Comfort is a unique mechanic that determines how healthy your creature is. At its highest peak, a creature can grow well, but at its lowest, a creature becomes stressed and can die. Stress can be caused by (but is not limited to) over-eating, staying near ungrouped creatures, and exposure to harsh storms.

Beasts of Bermuda give players free reign over how they look. Skins are completely customizable, allowing the user a free range of color choices, whether it be for camouflage or dazzle. Additionally, the talents mechanic allows players to choose their creature's specialties and spend points in different kinds of playstyles, such as extra health or speed.

Breeding is also an available mechanic; offspring will receive a mixture of their parents' corresponding skins and colors, as well as occasionally sporting mutations of the leucistic, melanistic, and wildcard varieties. Offspring will receive inherits based on their parents' talent trees.

Many different challenges are always present in Beasts of Bermuda. One must find food and quench their thirst in the ever-changing environment. Different animals have different means of obtaining food. Some are carnivores who need to hunt and eat their fellow players to survive. Others are herbivores, and thus have more peaceful means of eating. Piscivores are capable of eating both other players and fish. Along with the necessities of day-to-day survival, mother nature is always at your heels with its unpredictable weather that keeps the game interesting to play.

Current Gamemodes

* Life-cycle - This is the nominal game mode, and by far the most popular. The player begins as a juvenile of any species and grows over time, becoming more powerful the bigger they get. Eventually, accompanying model changes will differentiate younger members from their older counterparts. This mode is coupled with a talent or point-based system, in which the player becomes more powerful in the skills they choose. An additional aspect of this game mode is the work-in-progress Trial System.

* Combat - This game mode involves constant battling. Players will spawn as adult creatures and can kill other players to gain ever-increasing points. When you die, a percentage of your points are transferred to your killer. Train here to improve your chances of survival or just have fun!

* Free Roam - In this game mode, the player can select any creature to play without the cost of punishment for death. This mode offers a relaxed atmosphere in which the player can do as they wish. Players tend to join this game mode to socialize, explore, or fight.

Regardless of the selected mode of play, settings may differ from server to server based on the owner's preferences.

<center><span style="font-size:200%>Where is Beasts of Bermuda in its development?</span></center><br>

Beasts of Bermuda began development on January 16th, 2017. Currently, the game offers a fully functional game world with many combat mechanics and map-based survival elements already in place. Make no mistake, our game is still pre-release and very much under development. Future development will likely focus on expanding the playable creature roster, improving the quality of the graphics, models, general assets, and then implementing additional game modes.

The game was released on Dec 21st, 2018 on the game's steam page. Within their steam page are the game's patch notes where you can read in detail what new mechanics have been implemented. However, the best way to keep up with development is to join the official Beasts of Bermuda discord (https://discord.gg/jYaRG5X), where you can ask the developers in the appropriate channels about the current build of the game.
What platforms will Beasts of Bermuda be available on?

Currently, Beasts of Bermuda only has Windows support as adding support for other operating systems is low on our priority list. In the future, MAC and Linux support will be added as well. Steam will be our method of distribution. Beasts of Bermuda is a PC game and will not function on consoles. We are also currently waiting for the Nvidia support, which should only be a matter of time and only requires their confirmation.<br>

<br>

When will Beasts of Bermuda be officially released from Early Access?

As of right now, there is no ETA on this as we are currently still focusing on improving the game.<br>

<br>

Will Beasts of Bermuda have single-player support, or will it strictly be a multiplayer game?

Beasts of Bermuda is being created as a multiplayer game. If a player wishes to do so, they can host a server and play alone, but multiplayer play is strongly encouraged.
You can also see Dedicated Servers.<br>

Will there be Steam achievements?

Achievements will be available in-game upon the full release.<br>

How much is Beasts of Bermuda's Price?

Beasts of Bermuda costs $20.00 (USD/EUR) and can be purchased on Steam. The game occasionally goes on sale.<br>
Overview
The Saichania is a playable herbivorous creature in Beasts of Bermuda. It is a large, durable creature that possesses many defensive abilities that greatly help it defend against any would-be attacker.

Thriving in battle, the Saichania can use its weaponized tail to cripple its enemies, oftentimes causing them to limp almost immediately after receiving a hit. The Saichania can also turn in place to ensure its tail is facing its opponent, but even if caught by surprise at the front, it can defend its head by using its spiky shield, reflecting incoming damage right back at the attacker.

Unfortunately, all these defensive capabilities come at a big cost: a severe lack of mobility. The Saichania is a terrible runner, and will often find itself unable to escape certain deadly situations.

Abilities
Unique Attributes: The Saichania is immune to injury, meaning it will never suffer from bone-break. It can also turn in place when the crouch key is activated.

* Tail Swipe
** Default: LMB (Left Mouse Button) / RMB (Right Mouse Button)
** A fast tail swipe. It deals high damage and injury, and costs a moderate amount of ability power.

* Spiky Shield
** Default: Z (Ability Key)
** The Saichania instantly reduces all incoming damage for a few seconds. While active, any attacks made on the Saichania will be reflected back at the attacker (for a minimum of 50% of the damage dealt). This ability costs an enormous amount of ability power per activation, and costs additional ability power per use within a short period of time. The ability power cost is partially refunded if Spiky Shield successfully blocks an attack.

Pros
*A well time ability use will take no damage. But, the cooldown to use it again leaves the sai vulnerable to attacks.

Cons
* Spiky Shield can't be used while swimming. Making it an easy target for Mosa, Krono, Elasmo, Lurd, & Itchy.
* Slow speed. Even with full speed, a Sai can't move fast, making it hard to escape any predator that has speed.

Abilities
* Bite
** Default: LMB and RMB (Left and Right Mouse Button)
** A simple bite attack that can be angled forward and down with the usage of both mouse buttons.

* Dart
** Default: RMB (Right Mouse Button)
** A speed boost and attack ability that may only be used while submerged in water.
** This ability will propel you forward at great speeds, and can even be used to take off quickly from the water.
** Darting into another creature will deal damage to them.

* Flight

* Braking
** Default: Q
** Braking allows you to slow down mid-flight, to prevent crash-landings.
** To slow your flight, hold down your Interact keybind (default Q).
** You can hold the SPACE key to prevent altitude loss from braking.

* Aerial Acrobatics

Abilities
* Bite
** Default: LMB and RMB (Left and Right Mouse Button)
** A simple bite attack that can be angled forward and down with the usage of both mouse buttons.

* Dart
** Default: RMB (Right Mouse Button)
** A speed boost and attack ability that may only be used while submerged in water.
** This ability will propel you forward at great speeds, and can even be used to take off quickly from the water.
** Darting into another creature will deal damage to them.

* Flight

* Braking
** Default: Q
** Braking allows you to slow down mid-flight, to prevent crash-landings.
** To slow your flight, hold down your Interact keybind (default Q).
** You can hold the SPACE key to prevent altitude loss from braking.

* Aerial Acrobatics

Palaeophis is the first creature that existed outside the Mesozoic era to be confirmed for Beasts of Bermuda. See here for a full list of confirmed, discussed, and likely creature additions to the game.

This giant sea snake lived in the Cretaceous era and Eocene epoch. Being a sea snake, it was very likely accustomed to living and preying on the creatures of the open ocean. It was a carnivore, and is currently planned to function as a semi-aquatic creature in the game. Its in-game abilities are still being decided upon, but it is a possibility that it may feature venom. Palaeophis will likely be able to enter the burrows of Oryctodromeus or being able to construct burrows on seabeds. Its main environment will probably be shallow waters, similar to Lurdusaurus. It may have low health and be vulnerable to ambushes by Mosasaurus or Kronosaurus.

This creature will not be playable for the public for some time.

Sneak Peak
March 20, 2023
"The team and I wanted to share a small preview of the Palaeophis. The development teams’s efforts thus far have been focused on how to get the snake to move realistically, which has been presenting some complicated challenges. As of now, the snake is in a mechanic-less, animation-less state (yes that’s right these aren’t slithering animations, they’re physics simulations!) but we couldn’t wait to show how the movement is coming along so far. The snake is still a ways off, but the team is making great progress tackling its unique set of challenges!" -EchoAlien
