Fall damage is a mechanic in Beasts of Bermuda that applies damage to the player when they fall from too high of a height. Both physical and injury damage are applied when the player takes a fall. If the player falls from a height that is too high, they will die, rather than take damage.

Different animals have different thresholds, or sensitivities, to fall damage. In general, smaller creatures are able to fall from higher heights before taking damage than larger ones. Additionally, animals that are semiamaquatic are much more susceptible than terrestrial creatures to fall damage. The Velociraptor is most capable of absorbing falls, and must fall from tremendous heights before taking damage. The Ichthyovenator, on the other end of the spectrum, is very poor at absorbing falls, and can be damaged quite easily from even a modest fall.

If a player takes fall damage and receives injury, they will move slower than normal. For this reason, a player who has recently fallen can be at risk for being killed by predators that are slower than they are under normal circumstances.

The Elasmosaurus is an aquatic creature in Beasts of Bermuda. It is a piscivore and primarily roams the ocean, consuming fish. This creature, however, is hardly defenseless and can pose a significant threat to any terrestrial creatures who dare enter the water. Creating the Elasmosaurus and transforming it into a practical creature for gameplay was a difficult endeavor, mostly due to its long neck. A development blog post was created on the topic here. It is currently the only creature to have an auto-aim mechanic with its bite attack and uses a similar mechanic to eat carcasses or grab smaller prey.

The Elasmosaurus' primary attack is a bite. It deals light damage, on par with raptors or other smaller creatures. It can strike swiftly from afar due to its long neck. Its head is vulnerable to damage, so caution on when to bite must be taken if the prey is capable of fighting back. In the absence of more threatening targets, the primary attack will auto-target nearby fish and allow the Elasmosaurus to effortlessly grab them out of the ocean for consumption.

The Elasmosaurus' secondary attack is a grab. It is capable of grabbing smaller creatures right off the shoreline and dragging them down into the water. For particularly small prey such as velociraptors, the Elasmosaurus can consume them whole by executing its secondary attack once again while the prey is in its jaws. If the creature is relatively large such as a Pachycephalosaurus or a Utahraptor, it will thrash just as the Mosasaurus does. Food is granted upon consumption of prey whole.

Abilities: The Elasmosaurus can highlight fish to make easier for consumption. It also has an automatic aiming system, so it will almost always strike its opponents when they are within a certain radius of it.

Other Facts: While it's the weakest aquatic of the three currently in the game, the Elasmosaurus makes up for this weakness in its resourcefulness. Able to catch and eat fish which larger aquatics would be too large and clumsy to catch, the Elasmosaurus is more adept at hunting such prey. It can also grab and drag smaller animals into the water, feeding on their carcasses.

Elasmosaurus is also able to put points into the talent tree to acquire the ability to become invisible. It does not start out with this ability, but is a part of the game that encourages you to invest in talent points.
The Elasmosaurus has fantastic weather resistance, allowing it to completely ignore the negative effects of storms.

However, Elasmosaurus is rather fragile, having relatively low HP for its size.

The relationship between Mosasaurus and Elasmosaurus was one of particular focus. The Elasmosaurus is capable of biting the Mosasaurus while residing safely outside range of the Mosasaurus' grab attack. It is also immune to grabbing on its head and neck, and must be grabbed by the torso. The Elasmosaurus is faster than the Mosasaurus and has more stamina. Two or more Elasmosaurus are a threat to a Mosasaurus typically.

Beaching is a mechanic that can do in an aquatic creature. It sharply reduces comfort such that any player who has managed to beach themselves is in immediate peril of death if they do not get back into the water. Should a player become beached, their turn radius will become significantly reduced. They will also suffer from a greatly reduced movement speed. It will be very difficult to get back into the water if you manage to beach yourself high up on the shoreline. One of the easiest ways to become beached is due to receding tides, dropping water levels after a storm, or perhaps a nastily thirsty Apatosaurus who decided to drink your lake dry.
Uses of Stamina
Stamina is used for a few different purposes in Beasts of Bermuda. The absence of sufficient stamina will prevent the player from performing actions that require it.

*First and most intuitively, sprinting takes stamina. Sprinting while overweight consumes more stamina.
*Jumping also consumes stamina. Several creatures are given the ability to jump. The absence of sufficient stamina will prevent a player from jumping. In general, the heavier the creature, the more stamina it will consume while jumping. Velociraptors can jump for insignificant cost, whereas other creatures such as the Acrocanthosaurus consume significant stamina while jumping.

*Dromaeosaurids are able to pounce onto their target. Doing so takes a tremendous amount of stamina, such that a raptor who has failed to land a couple pounces may be close to exhausted, and can be run down by its otherwise slower prey.

Obtaining and Losing Stamina
Stamina recharge is governed by several different factors.

*Being overweight reduces the rate at which a player regenerates stamina.
*Being thirsty or dehydrated will reduce the rate at which a player regenerates stamina by up to 15%, whereas being fully hydrated will allow the player to regenerate their stamina 15% faster.
*Being hungry or starving will reduce the rate at which a player regenerates stamina by up to 15%, whereas being fully well fed (but not overfed) will allow the player to regenerate their stamina 15% faster.
*Having raptors or other creatures capable of pouncing latched onto ones side will short-term reduce the rate at which they can regenerate stamina, until the latched creatures detach.
*Sitting down increases the rate at which one regenerates stamina by 20%.
*Laying down increases the rate at which one regenerates stamina by 44%.
*Flyers regenerate stamina 3x more rapidly than other animals.

Stamina is represented in our UI as a yellow shape that changes based on what kind of animal you're playing as, often representing what the particular animal uses for locomotion, be it legs, flippers, or wings. A couple examples are shown here. Baseline, creatures have 100 stamina. Several, however, have more or less stamina based off the type of role they will likely be playing in the ecosystem. For example, creatures adept at running from predators such as the Gallimimus and Parasaurolophus have more than 100 stamina. Creatures such as the Acrocanthosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus, however, have less than 100 stamina.
Stamina is used for a few different purposes in Beasts of Bermuda. The absence of sufficient stamina will prevent the player from performing actions that require it.

Given the theme and lore of Beasts of Bermuda, most maps come with an ocean. This ocean is salty, meaning a player will not be able to quench their thirst if they attempt to drink from this body of water. Drinking from the Ocean will cause the player to lose survival points. The ocean has tides and often harbors both playable aquatic creatures and edible fish for piscivores. Terrestrial creatures who enter the ocean will see a significant drop in their comfort, often resulting in gradual loss of health.

The ocean and other bodies of water come with two different sets of post-processing effects, depending on whether the player is playing as an aquatic creature. Aquatic creatures sport significantly improved underwater visibility over their terrestrial counterparts due to reduction in underwater fog thickness and lack of water blurriness.

The ocean is the only body of water in the game that has tides. The water level will rise and fall in a cyclic motion on an hourly clock, often revealing or covering certain portions of the map key for terrestrial creature travel. Many caves and temples have entrances that may be submerged under the surface of the Ocean part or all of the time, depending on the tides. These areas often pose a point where aquatic and terrestrial creatures may come into contact with each other. Some cave passages may be submerged by the Ocean during all times except low tide, deliberately hiding certain secret areas of the map for the majority of the tidal cycle.

The ocean is also influenced by storms, where storm surges can occur during particularly strong storms. These storm surges can be very severe, occasionally flooding significant portions of the entire map and posing a survival challenge for players.

The carrying mechanic allows a creature to carry objects with them, such as carcasses, ferns, comfort crystals, and comfort flowers.

Depending on the carnivore's size, a carnivore may rip off a piece of meat from a carcass when it activates the carry mechanic.

Each object has a carry weight, which slows down a creature over time.

The carry mechanic is activated by double tapping the use key next to something that can be carried.
Forest fires are started from lightning. When a fire is spawned, it will propagate across the terrain, spreading to nearby trees, shrubs, and bushes. The fire will continue burning until it has ceased to find suitable vegetation to propagate to. The larger the fire, the further its reach, so large flames can jump from tree to tree, whereas a small fire may only be able to ignite other plants immediately beside it.
Forest fires contain the power to potentially wipe out entire sections of the map from being habitable for herbivores, sometimes requiring migration to other parts of the map to find green vegetation.
Close proximity to forest fires will sharply reduce comfort. Standing in a forest fire will kill you.
