Overview
The Apatosaurus is a playable herbivorous creature in Beasts of Bermuda, as well as the largest playable creature. Being big, however, requires a big appetite, and so the Apatosaurus must consume at a very frequent rate. Fortunately, it's not a picky eater: Its diet consists of almost any kind of plant, and it can even consume trees as an adult. It also must drink copious amounts of water, and this sometimes causes it to sip entire ponds dry!

Thanks to its immense bulk, the Apatosaurus has superb resistance to harsh weather and boasts the highest amount of HP in the game, as well as being able to attack from any angle with incredible knockback and damage, making it VERY hard to for any predator to kill. This effectively discourages almost every predator from attacking it in the first place, letting the Apatosaurus live a generally peaceful and undisturbed adult life... if it can reach adulthood, that is.

_________________________________________________________

Pros and Cons
Pros:

+ Titanic health pool

+ Incredible damage output when using all three attacks (Whip, Neck swing, Tail whip)

+ High weather resistance

+ Can back up

+ Can shelter herd-mates

Cons:

- Weak to creatures using the talent Thick Hide

- Vulnerable when young

- Requires a moderate amount of time to grow

- Leaves a large and easily detectable trail of smell without the use of Sneaky

- Can do very little against very massive groups of carnivores

_________________________________________________________

Abilities
*Primary Attack: The Apatosaurus swings its neck in an arc, damaging anything in front of it.

*Secondary Attack: A tail whip attack, which covers the back end of the animal. This attack is typically the primary means of defense for the Apatosaurus. Hold Rick Click to coil up the Apatosaurus' tail. When released, the tail will shoot forwards and crack like a whip, dealing great damage and heavy knockback to anything it hits. The tail is able to be aimed, by looking in the direction where you want the tail to hit. Keep in mind that for every second the tail is coiled up, ability power is drained, so don't hold it on for too long or you might end up draining too much ability power!

Unique Attribute #1: The Apatosaurus possesses the highest weather resistance of any terrestrial creature. It is also capable of granting some of its weather resistance to nearby herd members through talents, effectively making the Apatosaurus a 'walking shelter'. The Apatosaurus is also immune to tornados at the growth of 0.8.

Unique Attribute #2: When the Apatosaurus walks, its huge footsteps knock nearby creatures out of its way.

Unique Attribute #3: The Apatosaurus is capable of walking backwards. This is to prevent attackers from hiding under its hind legs, which are not in range of the whip attack. Walking backwards will cause them to be knocked back and into the range of the whip attack. In order to walk backwards, a player must toggle the crouch keybind.

_________________________________________________________

Weakness
The Apatosaurus's huge size causes it to walk at a lumbering pace. It is in fact the slowest creature in the game, and some creatures are able to out-speed it simply by walking. Thus, fast creatures can give it a hard time by performing rushdown or hit-and-run tactics.

Additionally, large carnivores such as the Acrocanthosaurus can inflict serious bleed damage to an Apatosaurus, as well as survive multiple tail whip attacks, making it a threat to the Apatosaurus.

Their primary physical weakness is their neck. This can be attacked easily if held out in front of them, allowing predators an easy bite without risking the stomp attack. Apatosaurus may counter this by holding the "Alt" key to raise its head to the degree it desires-all other creatures can actually do this as well.

The Apatosaurus is weakest against large groups of carnivores. Use pack tactics to your advantage and know their weak spots.

_________________________________________________________

Additional Notes
* The Apatosaurus's tail whip attack can be very effective for attacking or defending against any hidden aquatic creatures that may be lurking in a lake. Simply walk backwards into a lake and snap your tail to see if you can hit any hidden predators that may be lurking just below.

* Implementation of the tail-whip mechanic was claimed to be one of the most difficult mechanics to program, second only to Oryctodromeus' burrows.

Overview
The Tropeognathus is a playable pterosaur in Beasts of Bermuda. Though a flyer, the Tropeognathus is a resilient creature, capable of flying through storms without much difficulty and even boasting a surprising amount of health for its size, able to survive a few heavy hits. Using this bulk, it can easily slay the island's smaller creatures, such as the Oryctodromeus and Velociraptor, as well as injure larger creatures with a bone-breaking wingbeat attack.

Tropeognathus Mechanics
Wing Beat
*To use Wing Beat, press the ability key while facing another player (it can’t hit behind you)
*It can be used while in flight, or while on the ground.
*If it hits another player, both you and them will be knocked back. It deals significant injury and moderate damage to the hit player.
*Just like Spiky Shield, successive uses of Wing Beat now get 35% more expensive until its DR wears off, after 30 seconds. This will also reduce the damage and knockback.
*It is improved by the Deadly Wings talent.

Master of the Skies
*Baseline weather resistance is equivalent to 3/3
*Doesn't grant immunity to lightning strikes

Unique Talents
Strong Bond
*This talent is only in the Tropeognathus tree, as a survival Tier 3 talent.
*While grouped and close to your mate, you and your mate both receive a large boost to your max HP, Stamina, and Ability
*If both the mated Tropeognathus have the talent, it stacks additively between the two
*It increases with the (in-game) friendship level between you

Deadly Wings
*This talent is only in the Tropeognathus tree, on the bridge between the Power and Survival trees.
* This talent improves how much damage and injury Wing Beat inflicts.

Swift Wings
*This talent is only in the Tropeognathus tree, on the bridge between Mobility and Survival.
*This talent reduces the cooldown, ability, and stamina cost of using Wing Beat.

Tips
*It costs stamina to take off from the water, so make sure you have enough! This can be made less costly with the Quick Takeoff Talent.
*If a Pteranodon attacks, make sure to always be above them! After all, battling in the skies is a matter of who has the high ground.
*You turn pretty slowly in the air. Be sure to always angle yourself towards incoming Pteranodon to use Wing Beat.
*It takes a little while to begin diving, bear this in mind when trying to evade.
*Make sure not to let Pteranodons come behind you they can bite and slowly kill you!

Trivia
*Tropeognathus was originally going to be 150% as big, with a 12 meter wingspan!
*The Strong Bond talent was inspired by mated albatross pairs.
*Tropeognathus was going to be able to carry two creatures at once, but the idea was scrapped.

NettleBee: updated page, removed irrelevant information

When an animal is in the water, if their feet cannot touch the bottom, they are considered to be swimming. Swimming is one of three types of movement, the others being terrestrial movement and flight. Playable creatures in Beasts of Bermuda harbor a wide array of aquatic capabilities, ranging from ineptitude to proficiency.

Swimming as an Aquatic Creature
Aquatic creatures live their entire lives in the water, and thus are highly specialized for aquatic movement. An entirely different style of movement has been granted to these animals. Rather than using the turn radius style movement most terrestrial creatures follow, aquatic creatures can change their orientation simply by having the player move their camera, often very swiftly. The creature will always face the direction of the camera while the player is holding forwards, but will rotate left, right, or towards the camera if the player presses other movement keys. This is different than terrestrial creatures, where orientation of their animal will follow a more fixed radius on the terrain. Aquatic creatures are indeed very agile swimmers, and have the option of strafing. All creatures can strafe, however aquatics are the best at it in the water.

Aquatic creatures are significantly faster than their terrestrial counterparts while in the water. Most have speeds exceeding even the swiftest land animals.

Rather than be concerned with immediate death by drowning, aquatic creatures must manage their air supply using a different, more dynamic, specially designed mechanic. More aerobic activities deplete air faster than sedentary activities. Replenishing air is as simple as returning to the surface for a breath.

Swimming up and down can be controlled both with the pitch angle of the camera as well as with use of the jump, Strafing, and crouch keybinds. Be careful, as swimming too deep can lead to an increase in pressure, which decreases the comfort of your creature.

Swimming as a Terrestrial Creature
Terrestrial creatures are unanimously poor swimmers. They float lazily to the surface when no control input is provided by the player. Use of jump and crouch will allow the player to slowly ascend or descend in the water. Unlike aquatic creatures, they do not have a separate, dedicated system designed around their swimming capabilities. They are often restricted to a similar movement type they are bound to on land, where turn radius and speed dictate their course for the most part. Worse, with the exception of the Acrocanthosaurus, they suffer a further reduced rate of turning while swimming. Most of these creatures are very easy prey for aquatic creatures while in the water, and can put up little fight.

Some terrestrial creatures cannot use their attacks or abilities in water. Most notably, the Apatosaurus cannot neck swing, and Parasaurolophus cannot stomp.

Terrestrial creatures will suffer extreme loss of comfort if swimming in deep saltwater.

While submerged, terrestrial creatures are at risk of Drowning.

Swimming as a Semiaquatic Creature
The Ichthyovenator and Lurdusaurus are both of the semi-aquatic creatures available in Beasts of Bermuda. Semiaquatic creatures are very adept at swimming, but hold some limitations that aquatic creatures do not harbor. They have the same swimming movement style as that of aquatic creatures, allowing tremendously improved aquatic maneuverability over their terrestrial counterparts. Unlike aquatic creatures, however, they still have breath. When breath is exhausted, they rapidly perish, as terrestrial creatures do. The amount of time semiaquatic creatures can spend underwater, however, has been greatly extended by a factor of 5, allowing an animal the size of the Ichthyovenator to breath for nearly five minutes on one breath.

Semiaquatic creatures have improved underwater vision, allowing much higher visibility than terrestrial creatures.

While adept at swimming, semiaquatic creatures often aren't quite as fast or as agile as a fully aquatic creature in the water.

Swimming as a Flying Creature
Both the Pteranodon and Tropeognathus are the only flying creatures in Beasts of Bermuda. Instead of swimming, they dive through the water like a knife through butter, often to catch fish.

NettleBee: the fact 2 added carnivores weren't even on here

Carnivores must rely on eating meat in order to survive. In Beasts of Bermuda, there are two sources of meat in the game. The first comes in the form of carcasses, which spawn any time a player or AI animal dies. The second source of meat for carnivores comes in the form of fish. Most carnivores will have extreme difficulty fishing if they are not harboring the piscivorous trait. All piscivores are carnivores, and thus are capable of eating carcasses as well as fish.

Larger carnivores consume carcasses more swiftly than smaller ones, and thus a larger carnivore must generally eat larger prey than a tiny carnivore would need in order to survive.

There are many in-game carnivores currently available for play. These are:
* Acrocanthosaurus
* Tyrannosaurus rex
* Utahraptor (Will not be present on initial release due to an outdated model).
* Velociraptor
* Ichthyovenator
* Megalosaurus
* Megaraptor
* Mosasaurus (Aquatic)
* Elasmosaurus (Aquatic)(Will not be present on initial release due to an outdated model).
* Kronosaurus (Aquatic)
* Pteranodon (Flyer)
* Tropeognathus (Flyer)

Like herbivores, carnivores are also capable of overeating and gaining weight. In order to do so, one must continue eating food from carcasses or in the form of fish beyond the point at which their food is full.

Carnivores gain points for successfully hunting and killing other players that are not a member of their species. This includes all piscivores, as they too can eat carcasses if need be.

It should be noted that not all carnivores appear under the Carnivores tab of the dinosaur selection screen. Some are found under the Marine tab or the Flyers tab.

All carnivores are stressed by the presence of other carnivores as well as herbivores. They all lose comfort when in close proximity to others that are not their kind or not in their group.

Carnivores are only capable of grouping with others of their own kind, and cannot group cross-species.

Aggressive play, territorialism, and hunting are all encouraged for carnivores with the exception of ones possessing the piscivorous trait. Since non-piscivorous carnivores need to kill and eat other players for food in order to survive, they will likely be aggressive and one should be warily approaching a carnivore. Players with high food will lose food more quickly than ones with low food, while simultaneously raking in points more rapidly. Well-fed carnivores also recover HP, stamina, and ability power more quickly, thus providing an incentive to keep oneself well-fed. This is to deliberately promote an environment in which carnivores always want to top off their hunger meter, providing a gameplay reason for one to be on the hunt frequently.
