The Velociraptor is the smallest creature that can be selected for play in Beasts of Bermuda. It is a carnivore and must eat meat in order to survive. Though it does not have the piscivorous trait, some players have been able to sustain themselves eating fish as the Velociraptor due to its relatively high swimming speed.

It has a very low weight, and grants very little food to large predators. It also, however, consumes very little of a carcass when eating, and works very well as a scavenger. It has a high metabolism and must eat regularly in order to survive.

The Velociraptor has the highest stamina pool of any creature, possessing 150. This allows it to run and jump a significant amount before tiring. It is also highly adept at jumping, allowing it to climb and reach high ledges and rocks.

The Velociraptor's primary attack is an ordinary bite. It deals light damage and must bite larger foes a significant amount of times in order to land a kill.

The Velociraptor's secondary attack is a pounce, which is capable of latching onto large prey. A pack of Velociraptor can down large opponents such as the Acrocanthosaurus quite efficiently.

Unique Abilities: The Velociraptor has several unique abilities. It is able to pounce nearly all of the creatures in the game. The Velociraptor is also the only creature in Beasts of Bermuda capable of grabbing onto ledges, cliffs, walls, and some trees. In order to successfully grab a ledge, a player must be holding down the use keybind while approaching a grabbable surface and while in the air. Finally, it is able to enter Oryctodromeus burrows, even as an adult.

Other Facts: The Velociraptor was the first dinosaur to be added to Beasts of Bermuda. It is the main predator of Oryctodromeus. Being able to enter its burrows, there is almost no escape for these little herbivores. A pack of Velociraptors is a deadly force of nature, and even a skilled, lone velociraptor can take out large quarry.

The Velociraptor has no weather resistance and must take shelter from storms in order to survive.

The Acrocanthosaurus is a large, playable carnivore in Beasts of Bermuda. It is one of the slowest carnivores in the game, only being faster than the semiaquatic Ichthyovenator's terrestrial movement speed. However, it has the highest damage output and the strongest bite of any carnivore currently in-game. It also has the highest health and size. The Acrocanthosaurus is a superb ambusher due to its high damage output. It is the carnivore most capable of hunting the huge Apatosaurus and the swift Parasaurolophus.

Its attacks are fairly straightforward, possessing both a forwards-aimed and a downwards-aimed bite as its primary and secondary attack.

Special Abilities: Acrocanthosaurus will be able to inflict terrible bleeding wounds on its opponents. Bleeding is a status effect that damages health, comfort and raises injury damage. This allows the Acrocanthosaurus to engage in persistence hunting, wearing its prey out over long distances while they succumb to blood loss. A skilled Acrocanthosaurus can fell even the largest of creatures, so long as they are not allowed to recuperate.

Other facts: The Acrocanthosaurus will be the second strongest carnivore in the EA release, after the Tyrannosaurus. It makes up for the lack of power to Tyrannosaurus with superior speed, meaning it is able to pursue a wider variety of prey over long distances.

The Acrocanthosaurus is capable of doing a small jump that costs significant stamina. It serves the only purpose of allowing the Acrocanthosaurus to avoid getting stuck on small ledges or rocks in certain areas, granting little other utility.

The Acrocanthosaurus has a very mild amount of weather resistance and must take refuge from intense weather.

It also has a fast metabolism and must eat regularly to avoid starvation.

There is a super powerful Acrocanthosaurus known as the Demon Acro, which patrols the temple on the map. It is extremely powerful and guards the secrets of the temple. Tread wisely.

In order to nest, there must be a male and a female who are at least C grade friendship with one another, who are in a pack or herd together, who are of the same species, and who are both releasing pheromones. They must also be within a certain distance of one another. If any of these conditions are not met the game prompts you why you cannot mate with that player.

When two dinosaurs are close enough friends, they will be able to nest.

When a pair of players mate, the female begins creating an egg. On her HUD the egg HUD will show up. The fullness of the egg indicates how far along you are in creating your egg. Once it is full you will be able to lay your egg in a nest. You do not have to lay your egg until you are ready. You can carry it indefinitely and it's always ready for laying. You can also mate again while carrying an egg and develop a second egg. You can develop as many eggs as you want by mating while carrying eggs. However, you cannot mate while an egg is developing, so to accumulate many eggs you must wait for each one to develop individually and mate once it's ready.

The male can continue mating with the female to develop more eggs so that she is carrying more than one at a time. Different males can also mate with the same female and as such, she will carry eggs that belong to different fathers.

There is a catch to nesting; the female pays a price for carrying these eggs. She can't just carry 100 eggs around without penalty. Each egg increases the rate at which her food decays, the rate at which her water decays, and it drops her comfort a bit. She's also a little bit slower for each egg, so carrying a dozen eggs will be a real challenge. The Good Parent talent reduces these effects quite a bit.

Players can possess the eggs and hop around in them. Once the babies hatch, their skin will be a combination of the parents skins with some random variation. The babies will also have a chance of inheriting talents their parents obtained.

Players will be able to track family relationships using a family tree built into the game. If two related individuals have kids it will result in incest.

In Beasts of Bermuda, players can create their own customized skins based on existing skin layouts!
This system allows players to define themselves more than the usual static skins selection. As this is written, this system is entirely unlocked, players can customize their skin as they wish. (V1.0.0:16)

Skins and Making skins
Players get to customize their dinosaur in two different ways:
*As they spawn, the window to customize their skin will automatically show up once they selected the dinosaur to play as.
*Whenever they wish to modify their dinosaur while in-game, they can press "O" by default.

Once this window is opened, players can select the skin they wish to wear using the box in front of "Skin".
Depending on the selected skin, several categories will appear below this box offering the player a certain amount of options for this skin. They click one of the color buttons and edit the colors using the color picker below everything.
With this picker one can:
*Choose the color itself (Hue)
*Choose the alpha layer of this color (= more or less present)
*Choose the Saturation of this color (from white to specified color)
*Choose its value (from pitch black to full vibrant)

If they wish to undo what they just did to their skin, admitting they had done something with this skin before, they can left click the cross button next to each category to reload the previous colors or right click this same button to reset its category entirely.
Once this window is closed (either by pressing "O" again, or clicking "Start" when spawning a creature) the skin they have chosen saves and is persistent upon game close. In fact, the data for the skin is saved on both the local machine, the server they are playing on, and (will be on) the Steam's servers.

There is also a button that allows players to make random, naturally appealing skins.

Skins and Nesting
In the future, skins will be inherited by offspring when nesting. Offspring will have a combination of the parents' skins with some random variation.

In August, 2017, Beasts of Bermuda underwent a UI revamp. The older legacy UI was replaced with one that was more intuitive to players less familiar with the game. The new UI contains five elements to represent six resources, Health and Comfort both being represented on the same UI element.

*Health is represented by a silhouette of the current creature the player is playing, much like Primal Carnage's representation of Health. It rests in the bottom-right corner.

*Ability is represented by an orange icon that changes depending on which creature the player is playing. It typically takes the shape of whatever that particular creature uses to attack with, often being a jaw or claw silhouette.

*Stamina is represented by a yellow icon that changes depending on which creature the player is playing. It typically takes the shape of whatever the particular creature uses for locomotion, often being a foot, flipper, or wing.

*Thirst is represented by a simple set of water droplets. In the case of aquatic creatures of whom use [[Air
air]] instead of thirst, the icon changes to a set of bubbles.

*Food is represented by one of three icons currently, based on diet. Piscivores have a fish icon. Herbivores have some leaves. Carnivores show a piece of meat.

*Comfort is represented by the color of the health icon; the silhouette of the creature they are playing. It changes color based on comfort, spanning reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and blues.

Legacy UI
Prior to this date, the UI for Beasts of Bermuda consisted of six colored spheres, representing six resources a player must manage in-game. The spheres were the first pass at a HUD for Beasts of Bermuda, and tremendous inspiration from Diablo II's interface was taken in the creation of this interface. Due to near unanimous unpopularity for the UI among the community, the lead developer, Predatoria, begrudgingly accepted defeat and allowed his beloved Diablo II UI to be reworked.

The legacy UI had six elements.

*Health was represented by a large, red globe on the bottom-left side
*Ability was represented by a medium-sized, orange globe on the bottom-left side
*Stamina was represented by a small, yellow globe on the bottom-left side
*Thirst was represented by a small, blue globe on the bottom-right side
*Food was represented by a medium-sized, purple globe on the bottom-right side
*Comfort was represented by a large, green globe on the bottom-right side

Other UI Elements
In addition to the display of primary resources, there are some other elements of the Beasts of Bermuda UI as well.

The UI contains a breath meter. This meter only displays when a non-aquatic creature goes underwater. It is straightforwards and simple. It is identical in both the current and the legacy UI.

Food is a resource that must be filled to avoid death due to starvation. Food, like thirst, is a resource that decays exponentially. This means that the more food the player has, the faster the food will decay. Given the many effects hunger has, it is definitely in a player's interest to keep their food high, even if it means eating more. This also allows a player to last on little food for a while before the full effects of starvation begin to happen. Once a player has 0 food, the creature they are playing as will begin rapidly losing HP. From 100%, most creatures can last 33 minutes without eating.

Most creatures in Beasts of Bermuda have 100 food, though there are a couple exceptions. The Apatosaurus and Mosasaurus both have 150 food. It is possible to exceed 100 food. In order to do so, a player must continue eating while they are full on food. However, if this is done they will become overweight. The maximum fill past the full point is 30%.

Sources of Food
Different creatures obtain food in different ways. There are three different means by which a player can obtain food, only some of which may be valid at any given period of time.
* Plants will grant food upon consumption for herbivores.
* Fish grant significantly more food if a creature has the piscivorous trait. Herbivores cannot consume fish at all. Most carnivores will struggle to catch any fish due to the mechanics of swimming being very difficult for them.
* Carnivores can eat carcassess in order to satisfy their food requirement. These drop from any creature when they die, and larger creatures will drop larger carcasses with more food.

Effects of Hunger
* Food level is one of three components used to compute the rate a player gains points, the other two being comfort and thirst. Having yourself better-fed will lead to a much faster rate of gaining points.
* If in need of recovering HP, one who is well fed will recover significantly faster than a player who is on the brink of starvation. Even if food value is not down to 0 yet, a combination of low food, thirst, and comfort will cause HP to decay rather than heal over time.
* Keeping yourself well-fed will increase the rate at which a player's stamina recharges by 15%, whereas being at or near a state of starvation will decrease a player's stamina recharge rate by 15%.
* Keeping yourself well-fed will increase the rate at which a player's ability power recharges by 15%, whereas being at or near a state of starvation will decrease a player's stamina recharge rate by 15%.
* Well-fed players will heal more rapidly from injuries.

The Life Cycle Game Mode
Life cycle is one of the three (current) in-game gamemodes, alongside freeroam and combat. However, it has unique features that set it apart from the other two.

The Basics
Like any other gamemode, Life Cycle requires one to keep their selected playable creature alive by maintaining an appropriate level of hunger, thirst, and comfort. Perhaps oxygen level as well, if one selects a completely aquatic creature.
However, unlike Combat and Sandbox - where a player is granted a fully grown creature right off the bat - in Life Cycle you are spawned as a playable at 0.4 growth. The goal, if possible, is to grow to full size or perhaps even larger.

Growth
While every creature within the Life Cycle gamemode spawns at a growth of 0.4, every creature has a different growth rate. Growth rate refers to how long it takes a certain creature to gain a tick of growth. Smaller creatures gain growth faster than larger creatures (for example, a Velociraptor will grow larger faster than a Mosasaurus would.) However, the rate of growth can be improved by keeping one's stats such as comfort at a high level. Having pack/herdmates can help to keep comfort high at all times; consuming a large amount of healthy herbs (comfort flowers, crystals, sponges) will increase one's comfort bias and allow comfort to be maintained at a higher level as well.

On some maps, there are specific areas where one can go to get a boost to growth no matter their status levels. The area may take the form of a small island or temple. The buffs are 25%, 50%, and 75%, increasing in intensity as one gets closer to the center of the growth increase radius. One will receive a status message in blue on their screen when they have entered or left a growth increase radius.

Growth is infinite. One can grow as big as they would like, provided they are able to survive. Growth significantly slows once any creature reaches their full size at 1.0. However, while growth is different for every creature, it slows down to the same rate for any animal once said animal reaches 1.2 growth (for example, a Velociraptor at 1.2 growth will grow at the same rate as a 1.2 Mosasaurus.) The larger one grows, the more resources (such as food) they will require to survive. Eventually, one may find oneself at a point where they cannot sustain their huge animal any longer.

Talents
Like all other current gamemodes, Life Cycle has a talent system. At first, the player starts out with 5 talent points that can be applied to any accessible talent on any tree (survival in blue, power in red, speed in green.) As with any other gamemode, a talent must be fully unlocked (3 out of 3 points invested) in order to progress to the next "tier" higher.<br>

Additional talent points can be gained by surviving. When any creature advances 0.04 growth, they gain a talent point. This remains constant as long as a creature is alive. At 1.0, one is expected to have around 20 talent points in total (invested or not.) One can gain more by growing past 1.0.

Beasts of Bermuda currently has three maps.

Caldera, the smallest, is more for the combat gamemode. Basically it's an arena surrounded on all sides by cliffs - if you want to chill with friends or have a gladiator match this is your map.
Then there's forest island, adapted from Asokas Forest Island, which is divided in two by an ocean. If a megapack is on one island you can cross to the other at your own risk. There's also a mini island in the middle to make the journey easier.
Finally, there's bloodbath, a circular island with a large saltwater lake in the middle. Traveling around the entire loop takes quite awhile.

Forest Island is better for the Sandbox or Life Cycle Gamemodes.
