Overview

The Velociraptor (also known as Velo) is a playable carnivore in Beasts of Bermuda. It's one of the smallest playable creatures in the game, rivaled only by the Oryctodromeus.

The small stature of the Velociraptor gives it a plethora of advantages, such as squeezing through rocks, surviving immensely high falls, climbing trees, and most importantly, staying hidden. It can also jump at incredible heights: the highest of all creatures, and is even able to control the direction of its jump while in mid-air, allowing it to almost glide in the direction it chooses. Its high stamina pool most definitely compliments this feature.

Oftentimes, it is interpreted as a weak and skittish scavenger, but it is deceptively one of the strongest hunters. Such small size allows the Velociraptor to dodge attacks and bite its targets with incredible agility. With enough careful practice, a single Velociraptor can kill creatures much larger than itself!

Velociraptor also possesses quite a flexible range of playstyles. Thanks to this great variety, it's a favorite pick among many of Beasts of Bermuda's players.

Abilities

  • Bite
    • Default: LMB (Left Mouse Button)
    • A high DPS bite that deals a small amount of damage.
  • Pounce
    • Default: RMB (Right Mouse Button)
    • A chargeable leap that will send your Velociraptor forward at great speeds, largely ignoring any carried weight. This ability does not let you latch onto other creatures, and is very stamina-expensive. You can still take fall damage while pouncing if you leap over a sheer drop.
  • Climb
    • Default: E (Interact Button)
    • By double-tapping E before you hit a climbable surface, you will attach to it and be given the option to climb upwards (W), slide downwards (S), move from side-to-side (A and D), and detach yourself by pressing E again. This ability does not cost Ability Power or Stamina, and allows you to scale 90° surfaces with ease. You can also climb surfaces while carrying food and other things.
    • If your Velociraptor does not have at least 1 limb on the surface of which it's climbing, it will detach automatically and fall to the ground.
    • There is currently a bug where sliding all the way to the bottom of a climbable surface might mesh you through the ground, and you will fall through the map. Detach from whatever you're climbing before touching the bottom to avoid this.

Survival Tips

  • Velociraptor possesses a fairly weak bite at base, however, investing in the talent "Sharp Teeth" allows a great boost in damage toward larger creatures (everything, except Oryctodromeus).
    • Investment in the talent "Thick Hide" reduces the amount of damage you take from smaller creatures, which may help you significantly against Velos.
  • Velociraptor is the best at invading and raiding Oryctodromeus burrows. With the "Vigilance" talent, it can reduce the damage and comfort debuff of being underground. This is especially useful when it comes to your vision, giving you a larger range of sight inside burrows.
  • Velo has a wide range of playstyle options, including but not limited to:
    • Nest Raider - Utilizing the "Egg Thief" and "Baby Snatcher" talents, you can hunt and thrive on other creatures' offspring.
    • Scavenger - You can live a peaceful life eating whatever you can find or stealing from other carnivores, rarely needing to hunt at all.
  • Thanks to Velociraptor's small size, it can find shelter from storms almost anywhere.
  • Although it has a fairly fast metabolism, it can fill up on even the smallest carcasses.
  • Velos are extremely weak to water. While submerged, they express an extreme lack of agility and speed, and suffer Thalassophobia in the ocean.

Trivia

  • There are plans to update the feathering on Velo's current model in the future to bring up the quality and reduce lag. This is not a top-priority change, though.
  • Velo did have the ability to latch onto other creatures at one point, but this was quickly removed due to how buggy it was. It's highly unlikely that such an ability will ever be re-added to Velociraptor again.
  • Before the September 2020 (9/6/2020) QoL patch, Velociraptors were completely immune to fall damage after growth level 2.8.
  • Along with Apatosaurus, Saichania, and Oryctodromeus, Velos are immune to injury damage.
