This article was created on 10/24/2022. Gauntlet is still in development. Anything may change.
FYI: This mode is only on the new map Isla Titania!

What is Gauntlet?

This mode was created to introduce a new challenging method of infinite growth. Instead of time balancing growth, it uses food drain rates instead.
Time to grow to 1.2 has been lowered aswell. For example, apexes now take 90 minutes to reach 1.2.
Gauntlet has tremendously increased food/water drain and growth rates past 1.2.
This mode also introduces a leaderboard, which players can compete with others using growth.
(note: you're only placed onto the leaderboard once your animal dies)
Developers have talked about granting rewards from "experience", or from the leaderboard. You get more experience the larger you are.
During Gauntlet you may reset your growth back to 1.0 anytime, it only works when you're alive.
You may resurrect Gauntlet animals.

Entering Gauntlet

Reaching 1.32 growth, you're given the choice to continue growing. If you choose to grow you'll enter the "Gauntlet" - You'll notice your food drains faster overtime.
Some info about these rates taken from public test 2's patch notes:

  • The 30% increase in baseline food drain rate now begins cutting in at 1.2 growth and is in full effect at 2.0 growth
  • The 15% increase in baseline water drain rate now begins cutting in at 1.2 growth and is in full effect at 2.0 growth

A few tips for Gauntlet

Scavenger and botanist have gotten a new meaning. It may be wise to invest into them.
You can get sickness after 1.2, be careful.
During night, you'll be greeted with a "resting" buff. Resting lowers food drain rates by 75% (soon to be 55%?), and water
by 50%. Resting may eventually scale with growth, and larger animals will receive more benefit.
Being in a large group may be detrimental, as others can take away resources.
