Customizing the Utahraptor.

In Beasts of Bermuda, players can create their own customized skins based on existing skin layouts! This system allows player to define themselves more than the usual static skins selection. As this is written, this system is entirely unlocked, players can customize their skin as they wish. (V1.0.0:16)

Survival Points

This is where your Survival Points will become helpful, not only to look good on the scoreboard! In fact, customizing your dinosaur will cost survival points, for example, the more vibrant the colors, the more "pricey" the coloring will be. Players will have the chance to:

  • Color the skin of their choice, the way they want
  • Add extra feathers, crests
  • Add different aspect of feathers, along with deciding of the colors for these.
  • Add pretty much any cosmetics aspects we end up wanting in Beasts of Bermuda

However, as mentioned before, all these customization options (will) have a cost. A player having a whole lot of Survival Points will have access to more vibrant colors, more differences between the patterns they chose, more extra traits for their Dinosaur. Keep in mind, this is only for cosmetics, and have no influence on the gameplay.

The idea behind this, is that players can recognize other players based on the skin they wear, as in, for instance, a dangerous, deadly player wearing singular orange.. Well, other players aware of this, will instantly recognize the threat. This goes as well for regular players liking a singular pattern. In Beasts of Bermuda, names aren't a thing, aside from in the Chatbox and the Player List. We are willing to make players rely on colors and shapes more than names and labels when playing Beasts of Bermuda, encouraging them to use more "Primal" instincts, and the Player List will most likely be the best way to put a name on a face, by associating the player's colors with a name.

Skins and Making skins

Customizing the Acrocanthosaurus in a forest.

Players get to customize their dinosaur in two different ways:

  • As they spawn, the window to customize their skin will automatically show up once they selected the dinosaur to play as.
  • Whenever they wish to modify their dinosaur while in game, by pressing "O" by default.

Once this window is opened, players can select the skin they wish to wear using the box in front of "Skin". Depending on the selected skin, several categories will appear below this box, offering the player a certain amount of options for this skin. They click one of the color buttons, and edit the colors using the color picker below everything. With this picker one can:

  • Choose the color itself (Hue)
  • Choose the alpha layer of this color (= more or less present)
  • Choose the Saturation of this color (from white to specified color)
  • Choose its value (from pitch black to full vibrant)

If they wish to undo what they just did to their skin, admitting they had done something with this skin before, they can left click the cross button next to each category to reload the previous colors, or right click this same button to reset its category entirely. Once this window is closed (either by pressing O again, or clicking "Start" when spawning a creature), the skin they chosen saves and is persistent upon game close. In fact, the data for the skin is saved on both the local machine and (will be on) the Steam's servers.
