Being that this is a survival game, all creatures are expected to inevitably die.

Death occurs when a player's health reaches 0. Common sources of health loss are starvation, dehydration, stress, and damage from combat or other game world elements such as fall damage and drowning. When a player dies, they spawn a carcass. The larger a player’s dinosaur, the bigger and fuller the carcass will be.

A successful hunt will result in the increase of the hunter and its accompanying pack’s hunt points in the Trials tab. If a player dies from other causes while fleeing other players, the player who hit them most recently will get credit for the kill. The expiration timer for this is 45 seconds.

Currently, when a player dies, they lose all of their points, but this will be reconsidered when server saving becomes a thing.
