The current fish model, called Chinlea

Overview

Chinlea fish (hereafter just 'fish') are AI creatures that can be found aimlessly swimming in water. They provide a small amount of food to any piscivorous creature that bites them. Non-piscivorous creatures only receive half the food value gained from eating fish. Fish do not have any complex behaviors programmed, so they will not swim away from other creatures. Additionally, fish can be picked up.

The Scavenger talent allows piscivores to gain more food and a small amount of satiation from fish.

a pile of fish in an Elasmo's mouth
The outdated fish model

Additional Notes

Fish were once playable, but this feature has been removed as it was only a fun gimmick.

Fish used to provide satiation to piscivores without requiring the Scavenger talent, but this was changed upon the release of the Arganodus critter AI.
