Stamina is represented in our UI as a yellow shape that changes based on what kind of animal you're playing as, often representing what the particular animal uses for locomotion, be it legs, flippers, or wings. A couple examples are shown here. Baseline, creatures have 100 stamina. Several, however, have more or less stamina based off the type of role they will likely be playing in the ecosystem. For example, creatures adept at running from predators such as the Gallimimus and Parasaurolophus have more than 100 stamina. Creatures such as the Acrocanthosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus, however, have less than 100 stamina. | Stamina is represented in our UI as a yellow shape that changes based on what kind of animal you're playing as, often representing what the particular animal uses for locomotion, be it legs, flippers, or wings.
Uses of Stamina
Stamina is used for a few different purposes in Beasts of Bermuda. The absence of sufficient stamina will prevent the player from performing actions that require it.
- First and most intuitively, sprinting takes stamina. Sprinting while overweight consumes more stamina.
- Jumping also consumes stamina. Several creatures are given the ability to jump. The absence of sufficient stamina will prevent a player from jumping. In general, the heavier the creature, the more stamina it will consume while jumping. Velociraptors can jump for insignificant cost, whereas other creatures such as the Acrocanthosaurus consume significant stamina while jumping.
- Dromaeosaurids are able to pounce onto their target. Doing so takes a tremendous amount of stamina, such that a raptor who has failed to land a couple pounces may be close to exhausted, and can be run down by its otherwise slower prey.
Obtaining and Losing Stamina
Stamina recharge is governed by several different factors.
- Being overweight reduces the rate at which a player regenerates stamina.
- Being thirsty or dehydrated will reduce the rate at which a player regenerates stamina by up to 15%, whereas being fully hydrated will allow the player to regenerate their stamina 15% faster.
- Being hungry or starving will reduce the rate at which a player regenerates stamina by up to 15%, whereas being fully well fed (but not overfed) will allow the player to regenerate their stamina 15% faster.
- Having raptors or other creatures capable of pouncing latched onto ones side will short-term reduce the rate at which they can regenerate stamina, until the latched creatures detach.
- Sitting down increases the rate at which one regenerates stamina by 20%.
- Laying down increases the rate at which one regenerates stamina by 44%.
- Flyers regenerate stamina 3x more rapidly than other animals.
Stamina consumption is governed by a few factors.
- Having raptors or other creatures capable of pouncing latched into ones side will short-term increase the rate at which a player consumes stamina.
- Being overweight increases the rate at which a player consumes stamina.
- Flyers consume stamina very, very rapidly while ascending steeply in the air.
