Talents are skills that each creature in the game can obtain using Talent Points. Talent Points are obtained over time as the creature grows. A spawned creature from the creature select screen will have 10 talent points for spending. Hatching from an egg won't have any talent points right away.

Talents come in 3 different branches.

Talent Points are spent in the talent tree. Each talent can be leveled up 3 times. All trees start from the center. Branches cannot level up other talents further out until the previous talent has a sufficient point to keep branching out. For example, say you are an Ory and you want Burrow Master 3/3. In order to make that happen, Adrenaline, Stoic, Persistence, Brawler/Bruiser all must be 3/3.

Inherits

An Oryctodromeus getting 2 inherits from natural growth

Inherits are extra points into a talent. Even if a talent is at 3/3, inherits will add an extra value. They come in +1 and +2. A dead creature can be reincarnated for a chance to get better inherits. Example, say an Oryctodromeus obtained Surefooted+1 and Aqua Affinity+1. There's a chance that reincarnation could give Surefooted+2 and another talent inherit. Inherits come in at .425, .6, .8, 1.0, and 1.2 growth.

The same Oryctodromeus getting all +2 inherits from a reincarnation

This table needs more trial and error to confirm and/or find any missing information

Inherits Obtained Meaning
Spawned through Creature Select's new slot Majority +1. Expect few +2 Creating a new Creature is less likely to give +2 and will result in many talents getting a +1
Egg Hatch Depends on the parents There's no definite result when egg hatching. Could get some +2 or could get majority +1
Damaged Egg from Mother's Stress/Attacked or from Damaged Incest Egg (Parent mates with their child) Possible Negative Inherits Damaged eggs, most likely through incest, are more likely to have -1 applied to their inherits. This means, you will lose a point for that talent. Unknown if -2 can happen.
Reincarnation Depends on Growth Size Growth is typically cut a small percentage when reincarnating. Could get the same inherits the creature was destined to or might reroll for different inherits at the specified growth sizes.
Sacrificing for Revival Depends on Growth Size of the dead creature. Could also be dependent on what other creatures are used to revive the dead creature When sacrifices are met, little to no growth is lost. Inherits at future marks should be the same

What are Talents?

Talents in Beasts of Bermuda are optional enhancements that can be applied to a player's creature. Each talent gives unique perks to a creature, whether it be something like extra damage or increased tolerance to severe weather.

Many talents are simple in nature, increasing values such as ability power or oxygen by set amounts. However, some talents enable abilities previously inaccessible to a certain creature, such as being able to reduce an opponent's stamina with a standard bite attack. Because of this, a creature's functions and playstyle can be individually tailored to the player's liking.

Inherits are bonuses to existing talents. Whether spawned or nested, one has a chance to gain up to +2 on any talent available to the creature they have selected. One important thing to note, however, is that while a spawned creature's inherits are totally random, a nested creature may inherit any of the talents either of their parents put points into. A parent's inherits cannot be transferred to offspring. Bonus inherited talents are potentially unlocked at growths 0.45, 0.60, 0.80, 1.00, and 1.20. The tier of the bonus talent received will correspond to the attained growth benchmark. That is, at 0.45 growth, only a tier 1 talent (e.g. Resilience) will potentially receive an inheritance talent; at growth 1.2, only a tier 5 talent may receive an inheritance.

All spawned creatures are guaranteed 2 positive inherits, but may also receive anywhere from 0 to 2 negative inherits and/or an additional 2 positive inherits. This brings the total to 6 (4 positive, 2 negative)(the optimal result would be 4 - all positive, no negatives). However, if a negative and positive 'land' on the same inherit, they may cancel each other out. Although spawned creatures are confined to these limits, nested creatures have the chance for even more inherits. The Good Parent talent, if obtained by one or more parents, may boost the chances for their offspring to have additional positive inherits. Nested creatures only have the potential to earn negative inherits if they are the product of incest or their parent takes injury damage before the egg is laid. Additionally, if the parent's comfort drops below 25 as the egg incubates, it can have the same effect.

Types of Talents

Talents can be sorted into three major categories.

Power Talents

Power talents, in the talent screen, lie on the bottom left with the power tree. The color associated with these talents is red. Power talents increase the strength and battle capabilities of one's creature.

Speed Talents

Speed talents, in the talent screen, lie in the top center of the screen with the speed tree. The color associated with these talents is green. Speed talents increase a creature's mobility and maneuverability.

Survival Talents

Survival talents, in the talent screen, lie on the bottom right with the survival tree. The color associated with these talents is blue. Survival talents improve a creature's ability to survive and be efficient in its environment.

In-betweeners

Some talents lie between trees in the talent screen. As such, they can be classed as both of the talent types they lie between. For instance, a talent between the power and speed trees could be classed as both a power and speed talent.

Sturdy

(Oryctodromeus, Pachycephalosaurus, Pteranodon, Velociraptor)

  • Allows you to receive a blow that would otherwise kill you, and leaves you with 5% HP, at the cost of stamina and injury damage.
  • More talents reduces the amount of stamina subtracted, and reduces the amount of injury damage taken.
  • More talents increases the severity of the hit one can survive. A sufficiently hard hit will penetrate this ability.
  • This ability can only activate if you are above 90% HP when hit.
Sunbather

(Elasmosaurus, Kronosaurus, Mosasaurus)

  • More talent points invested continues reducing the discomfort of beaching.
Surefooted

(Acrocanthosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Lurdusaurus, Megalosaurus, Oryctodromeus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Saichania, Tyrannosaurus rex)

  • Greatly increases the speed at which you can enter or exit burrows.
  • Increase the speed at which you can dig tunnels.
Swift Flippered

(Kronosaurus)

  • Your lunge attack also goes further when released.
  • Your lunge attack does not deal more damage from this talent.
Swift Wings

(Tropeognathus)

  • Reduces how much stamina and ability power wing beat costs.
  • Also reduces the cooldown on wing beat.
  • Improves the amount of self-knockback dealt when using wing beat while on the ground.
  • Improves the speed boost received from hitting another flyer with wing beat while in flight.
Swiftness

(Acrocanthosaurus, Apatosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Lurdusaurus, Megalosaurus, Mosasaurus, Oryctodromeus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pteranodon, Saichania, Tropeognathus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor)

  • Improves movement speed.
  • Flyers only benefit from this talent during ground movement.
  • More talent points further increases movement speed.
Thick Hide

(Acrocanthosaurus, Apatosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Kronosaurus, Lurdusaurus, Megalosaurus, Mosasaurus, Parasaurolophus, Saichania, Tyrannosaurus rex)

  • Sharply reduces the amount of damage taken from small hits.
  • Strong at mitigating against smaller creatures and creatures that do damage using many hits.
  • Does not mitigate against harder hits.
  • More talent points further mitigates against small hits, but does not allow mitigation against larger amounts of incoming damage.
  • Does not mitigate against injury damage.
  • At maximum reduces reduces the effectiveness of sharp teeth using health value of 1.0 growth.
Thick Skull

(Elasmosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Lurdusaurus)

  • Boosts damage dealt from dart

(Acrocanthosaurus, Apatosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Kronosaurus, Lurdusaurus, Megalosaurus, Mosasaurus, Oryctodromeus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Saichania, Tyrannosaurus rex)

  • Decreases the negative effects of being overweight, such as loss of comfort, loss of turn rate, and slower stamina regeneration
  • Does not mitigate against losses in speed associated with being overfed
  • Reduces the amount of water poisoning received, but does not improve water satiation gain
Turn While Stomping

(Apatosaurus, Lurdusaurus, Parasaurolophus)

  • Allows some level of control of your character while stomping.
  • Normally, stomping disallows movement during the course of the stomp, this talent changes that.
  • Higher talent levels allow more control while stomping, meaning a faster turn rate and a higher max speed.
Unbreakable

(Acrocanthosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyovenator, Kronosaurus, Lurdusaurus, Megalosaurus, Mosasaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Tyrannosaurus rex)

  • Reduces the slowing effect injury has on walk speed (includes swimming "walk" speed).
  • Reduces jump height reduction received from injury damage.
  • Reduces the slowing effects injury has on dart.
  • Injury still fully influences sprint speed.
